Edd prepares to launch Rosetta mission music
Young Hastings musician and composer Edd Blakeley has finished a full suite of original orchestral music dedicated to the European Space Agency’s Rosetta comet mission. The launch party is being held this weekend in Hastings.
The Rosetta mission, which successfully landed a probe on comet 67P late last year, has sparked numerous inspired artworks and musical ventures.
Late last year Edd launched a successful Kickstarter fundraising campaign to fund the new album, allowing him to record the suite.
“I can’t thank my [Kickstarter] backers enough – it’s been such a journey and a learning experience writing this new music. Now I just want everyone to hear it!”
The 26-year-old, son of local fiddle player Garry Blakeley, has been very active in the Hastings and Sussex live music scene and also writes and produces his own music.
He has enlisted the help of his father, among other Sussex-based musicians, for the recording of The Rosetta Suite, which was recently released.
He said: “If you’re a fan of works like The Planets suite by Holst, you’re likely to enjoy the style I’ve gone for with The Rosetta Suite.”
The Jenny Lind inn in the Old Town has been chosen to host the launch party for The Rosetta Suite, which is open to the public. Copies of the new album will be available. The party is scheduled for Sunday 15 November, 1:30-5pm.
