Bluesman Kris Dollimore sets a high standard for Hastings

During a career in music spanning more than three decades, guitarist Kris Dollimore has travelled the world, gracing some of its greatest stages, and has played with numerous international bands and artists. Names you may have heard of include The Godfathers, The Damned, Dee Dee Ramone, Johnny Thunders and Adam Ant. He also plays with Del Amitri, who just last week announced a UK tour for early 2014. Kris numbers the likes of Johnny Depp, David Bowie and Chrissie Hynde in his fan club. Musician Ian Greensmith gets excited about the upcoming gig at The Royal Standard.

Nine years ago, Kris took the decision to go it alone and has toured relentlessly, travelling the length and breadth of the UK and across Europe, earning a hardcore following of loyal fans that grows wherever he goes. And it is to Hastings that he goes next, to the Royal Standard in the Old Town on Friday 20 September.

He sets himself high standards with his precision playing. A skilful guitarist, Kris has always been admired by other players in whichever genre he has turned his hand – and going solo leaves no room for error and nowhere for him to hide. His repertoire is largely acoustic, a fair portion of that being instrumental, in the vein of American fingerpickers John Fahey and Jack Rose.

Hoping to release his fourth solo album early next year, his first three ‘02/01/1978’, ‘Now Was The Time’ and ‘No Ghosts In This House’, all received glowing reviews from the music press both at home and abroad, their success taking Kris, a modest chap by any standards, by surprise.

His first album, ’02/01/1978′, was named after the day he received his first guitar on his twelfth birthday.

Dollimore has an intense passion for his music and wants to bring it to as many people as possible. Friday’s show is free admission, all welcome. Kris will be playing two sets from around 9pm.
