Celebrate Blues, Soul and Motown with Sound Waves
Sound Waves Community Choir is celebrating all things Blues, Soul and Motown in their Blues Brother, Soul Sister concert at the Masonic Hall in St Leonards on 27 April. The choir’s Rosalyn Ziebell describes the pleasures in store.
We will be bringing you the upbeat songs of the 1960s and 70s associated with vocalists such as the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye and Martha and the Vandellas.
Our arrangement of Dancing in the Street will have you dancing in the aisles and our Motown Medley, with its sounds of Detroit, will have your feet tapping and fingers snapping. Rock your Blues Brothers look with fedoras and shades as you listen to our R&B rendering of some of their greatest hits.
We will have special guests, The Kukes: an alternative folk/country/pop band based in Bexhill and Hastings and featuring melodic harmonies, ukuleles, melodeon, whistle, banjo and an eclectic song choice. The Kukes were winners of the Ukulele Society of Great Britain’s Ukulele Band of the Year contest in 2019.
Entry is free but there will be a cash collection for our chosen charity, Project Art Works, which collaborates with people with complex support needs and provides art and care through film, events, projects and exhibitions.
We can promise you a fun and entertaining evening, so set your sat navs to TN38 0DR and come along to the Masonic Hall on Thursday 27 April, doors open at 7:00pm for a 7:30 start.
If, after having watched our performance, you feel inspired to join us (no audition necessary) then check out our website for more information. Our next six sessions, which start Tuesday 2 May, will be led by the acclaimed local musician, Mike Hatchard.
