Hofesh Shechter

Hofesh Shechter came to Hastings
And slid across the stage
Like a range of primordial creatures
Monkey moves
Death metal grooves
Elbow jerks
That worked in synch
The young muscles of
Men
Sweating
Dread hair
Obscuring serious faces
Touching places
Of discord and harmony
Me, I loved it
Each contraction
Each action
Choreographed
To perfection
The effortless effort
Of extreme exertion
The chest filling noise
Those boys and girls so sad
And yet ecstatic
Erratically arranged
In ordered chaos
Meaning played out
In stretched sinews
and tendons taut with potential
Energy
exploding
To the end when I stood
Deaf
Dazed
And happy
