Hastings Young Writers seeks submissions for latest anthology
Hastings Young Writers group is compiling its 2022 anthology and is inviting contributions from anyone aged under 18 years, from Hastings and surrounding areas. Liz Caluori encourages local young writers to submit their creative writing and poetry.
Let your imagination run wild
There is no specific theme, so writers can let their imaginations run wild. We are looking for poems, short stories, flash fiction, articles, song lyrics – maybe even a made-up joke or riddle.
Our 2020 anthology, Full Stop (pictured here), received fantastic reviews and raised over £500 for local children’s charity, Charity for Kids. All proceeds of this year’s book will go to the same great charity.
No lower age limit
Our last book included an exciting story dictated by a three-year-old!
If you are not yet 18 years old, whatever your age, you are welcome to submit your creative writing.
How to submit your work
Writers can enter more than one piece, but individual pieces will ideally be under 1500 words. Closing date for entries is 18 July, 2022.
Please sent submissions to: anthology@hastingsyoungwriters.co.uk (including ‘Anthololgy 2022’ in the subject line).
Or contact liz@hastingsyoungwriters.co.uk for more information.
Hastings Young Writer wows at star-studded event
As a member of the Hastings Young Writers group, Piper Wren, was invited to create a poem for the recent press launch of The Bright Foundation. Piper, 15, rose to the challenge, creating a fantastic poem that impressed an audience that included Jeremy Irons and Jim Broadbent – see photograph at the top of this article.
The highly successful launch was featured in the BBC and ITV news and national press, thrusting Piper into the limelight.
Polly Risbridger, Chief Executive Officer of The Bright Foundation, thanked Piper on her ‘beautiful contribution’ to the launch. She described Piper’s poem as ‘stunning’, saying that it was performed with ‘grace, confidence and style’.
This isn’t the first time Piper has read to such a discerning crowd. Piper, and another member of the Hastings Young Writers group, have previously recited their poetry to playwright and film director, Sir David Hare.
Hastings Young Writers group is run by Liz Caluori and is open to any young person aged 10–17 from Hastings and surrounding areas. The group runs every second Monday from 5–7pm at the White Rock Hotel. For further information please contact liz@hastingsyoungwriters.co.uk
