Hastings Charity Fest: an acoustic music day for a cause

On Saturday, 10 May 2025, Hastings will welcome the inaugural Hastings Charity Fest, a free-entry acoustic music event at Barnaby’s Lounge, starting at 2pm. This one-day festival celebrates local musical talent while supporting two important music charities, with representatives from both organisations onsite collecting donations in buckets throughout the day,as the Lounge’s press office reports.

The event is organised by Ash Costa, Barnaby’s Lounge barman and passionate guitarist, alongside local musician Konarucchi. Their shared goal is to create an inclusive platform that highlights local artists and raises funds for The Music Well and Music Lifeline.

The Music Well, based in Rye, provides music therapy and community music-making opportunities to improve well-being. Music Lifeline offers free access to music for children in East Sussex, especially in state schools where funding cuts have reduced music education.

Barnaby’s Lounge has a long-standing reputation for nurturing emerging artists. “We believe in giving new performers of all ages a chance to shine,” says Barnaby, the venue’s owner. “Our jam sessions, acoustic afternoons, and open mics are designed to be a safe environment to perform in.”

The festival’s lineup features headliners Tim Hoyte, indie/alt-folk-rock singer/songwriter, and Reshad Rahman, a Hastings favourite celebrated for his soulful performances. Also performing are Hayley Savage, whose alt-country and folk roots have earned her acclaim for heartfelt songwriting, and Broga Doe, bringing his unique sound to the stage.

A pop-up kitchen by a local chef will offer gourmet burgers and vegetarian dishes, ensuring a variety of food choices for attendees. The day will conclude with a late-night DJ set by Jack Wilson from the acclaimed local band Kid Kapichi, promising to keep the energy high and the audience dancing.

Hastings Charity Fest is more than a music event; it’s a celebration of community spirit and the power of music to bring people together. All donations to the charities are warmly welcomed.
