Trash’d New Wave Festival – pre-election, pop-up special
As an antidote to you-know-what, Trash’d New Wave Festival is proud to announce its Pre-Election Pop-Up Special, taking place at the Electric Palace Cinema on Thursday April 30 from 7.30 to 10.30.
The star contributor will be multi-award-winning British documentary filmmaker Marc Isaacs, whose work includes Lift, The Curious World of Frinton On Sea and All White in Barking. Marc’s films have won Bafta, Grierson and Royal Television Society awards, as well as prizes at major international festivals.
In 2006 he had a retrospective at the prestigious Lussas Documentary film festival in France and his work has been included in numerous documentary books and academic studies. In 2008 Marc received an honorary doctorate from the University of East London for his documentary work. He is a guest tutor at the London Film School, the National Film and Television School and Royal Holloway University.
For the Pop-Up Special, Marc will screen All White in Barking, which looks at attitudes towards immigration in the predominantly white working-class town in Essex, and give a Q&A session with the audience afterwards. To quote The Times Online: “Isaacs has an outstanding gift for getting people to open up to him and he uses film the way a skilled artist uses paint. The result is beautiful, heartbreaking and profoundly humane.”
An excerpt from the film can be seen here.
Support for the evening comes from punk troubadour Huffy and International Times publisher, activist and former rocket scientist Mike Lesser.
Tickets are available online, priced at £7/£6.
