Join the Electric Palace cinema’s auction and memorabilia sale on Saturday 7 September

National Cinema Day Auction and Memorabilia Sale 2024

You are invited to an extra special auction and memorabilia sale on the afternoon of Saturday 7 September to help raise funds for beloved Old Town venue, The Electric Palace cinema, says Annie Waite.

To mark National Cinema Day, this year the Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town is inviting you to drop in on Saturday 7 September at any time between 2.30pm and 5.30pm to see what’s on offer at the cinema’s Auction and Memorabilia Sale.

Cinemas fighting for survival

Many cinemas are struggling to remain open due to the cost of living crisis, plus the impact of Covid and streaming services, and it’s a battle for survival in the cinema world at the moment. Facing rising costs, independent cinemas are struggling to survive across the country, with venues like the historic Electric Cinema in Birmingham closing down, and more locally the Sussex Exchange.

Show your support for cinema by heading over to the Electric Palace to pick up some cool film merchandise including rare film stills, artwork, badges and other desirable cinema items at the Electric Palace’s cinema auction and memorabilia sale. There will also be a raffle!

Drop in at any time during the afternoon and enjoy the fun.

Some of the items for sale on the day:

  • Rare Film Stills
  • Cinema and Film Memorabilia
  • Rare DVDs and Blu Rays – including films with Hastings onscreen
  • Framed Photos
  • Badges
  • T-Shirts
  • Tote Bags

  • And much more!

Cinema and the new reality

Run entirely by part-time staff and volunteers, Hastings’ special independent cinema has been serving the community for 22 years.

As a community interest company the Electric Palace is a not-for-profit organisation but is still subject to 20% VAT on all its ticket prices. Without regular external funding it relies solely on its ticket and bar income to cover its costs.

Annie Mannion, the Electric Palace cinema’s co-director, says:

“To help maintain our lovely venue and make necessary repairs and improvements following our recent break-in we are launching this new fundraising event.

You came out in force as the amazing community you are when we held a post-Covid fundraiser and that helped us through a particularly tricky period. Please do join us on Saturday 7th September, and head out to the cinema when you can to enjoy new releases and other gems in the company of others.”

Learn more about the fundraising event at the Electric Palace on Saturday 7 September, open for all anytime between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.
