Hastings Jazz and Blues Festival takes place this weekend, with a main programme on the Stade supplemented by acts in a number of Old Town pubs. This is the first of this year’s programme of Stade Saturday events. Nick Terdre reports.

The three-day Hastings Jazz and Blues Festival, which began with a session on Friday night, continues with another five acts on the stage in the Stade Open Space from lunchtime into the evening and a further five tomorrow, wrapping up at 6pm.

The Jonas Larsson Band appears on the Stade on Saturday afternoon.

The Cadillac Kings

The Cadillac Kings appear both on the Stade and in the Nelson on Saturday.

All events are free but the festival is the major fundraiser for Hastings Winkle Club, and generous donations are requested!

Programmes can be picked up in Old Town pubs and bars and at the Tourist Information Centre in Muriel Matters House (Sunday’s timings have changed due to the need to end entertainment on the Stade by 18.00).

Fish festival follows

The next event on the Stade Open Space will be the Midsummer Fish Festival on the weekend of 22 and 23 June. There will be the usual wide selection of food and drink from local restaurants, street vendors and bakeries, as well as local brewers and wine makers, plus free cooking demos and children’s activities taking place in Stade Hall.

There will also be live music all weekend, from such as Hastings Sinfonia and the Claire Hamill Band.

Tickets cost £1.50 in advance from the Tourist Information Centre or £3 on the gate (under 18s free).

Further events in the Stade Saturday programme are being finalised by the organiser Sweet and Dandy.
