Quilt event on Pier 16th June
Hands of Friendship: quilting on the pier
On Saturday 16 June, Hastings Community of Sanctuary and Hastings Refugee Buddy Project will hold a quilting workshop in the Birch Room on Hastings Pier. Part of their celebration of Refugee Week, this event gives you the chance to become part of their Friendship Quilt, together making a wonderful community quilt, which will be displayed at Hastings Museum later this year. Felicity Laurence writes.
Each square of the quilt will be made and decorated by the people of Hastings, representing the diversity and friendliness of our town. The quilt squares will have the outline of each participant’s hand stitched on it and then decorated in whichever way they would like to do it.
At 2pm, we will also be showing the Premier of Hastings Refugee Buddy Project’s short film about the growing work of the Buddy project and the friendships developing between our new fellow-citizens and local people across our community.
Everyone is warmly invited to this free, family-friendly event, which heralds our community’s participation in Refugee Week (18 – 24 June) now celebrating its 20th anniversary.
