Union of the Senses

Synesthesia: Union of the Senses

Synesthesia: Union of the Senses is an explorative investigation into the unique world inhabited by synesthetes. This exhibition focuses on the possibility of synesthesia being more than just a neurological condition. Zoom Arts group writes about a new exhibition coming up at their Warrior Square Station Gallery.

Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon where one sense triggers others.
Many people have synesthesia, but most are not aware of it. Maybe you too?

This collaborative project aims to translate the everyday sensory experiences of the synesthete by showcasing creative works by synesthetic artists alongside an interpretation of synesthesia by non-synesthetes. This union will endeavour to create a single experience for the viewing audience.

Union of the Senses introduces Jenny Perry, a multi-talented musician and artist who has chromesthesia. Also Chris Beckstrom, a multi synesthesic musician, who has composed a score specially for Synesthesia. Steven Kilmartin has added photographic images and interpretive air-brushed paintings for the exhibition.

Curation of the exhibition is by Mariam Sudzhadinova and Steven Kilmartin.

Union Of The Senses, Synesthesia In Art: Zoom Arts Gallery, Warrior Square Station, St Leonards-on-Sea TN37 6BS. From 29 November until 2 December, 10:30am-4pm daily. Preview night Friday 1 December from 7:30 pm – please feel free to come along.

This exhibition seems to have closed early on Saturday, which was a shame, as we made a trip down to see it and were really looking forward to it. I missed the email with the information, so didn’t get a chance earlier. A great shame: people should really honour the hours they advertise as being open.
