Art of movement
For all who want to move, dance and feel good. Dancer and choreographer Viv Hamblin and Feldenkrais practitioner Catherine Pinhorn are offering a series of workshops for all those who wish to explore the joy of creative self-expression through movement. HOT’s Zelly Restorick writes.
Having attended Viv and Catherine’s workshop at The Jerwood, moving within the Mark Wallinger gallery space, I can highly recommend these sessions if you’re interested in exploring moving with others in the shared ‘present moment’. Absolutely no pressure to do anything that doesn’t feel right: Viv and Catherine’s sole aim is for you to feel good in your body-mind – and to nurture and nourish yourself through the art of moving.
There’s no competition, either with yourself or anyone else – only a sense of collaboration with your fellow movers, exploring and responding to your body, the space and each other. And no expectations: you’re free to see how you feel at the time of the session – moving fast or slow, shyly or dramatically.
There are no rules, no moves to follow and copy – your personal ‘now moment’ interpretation is unique. Sometimes there’s music, sometimes you move alone, sometimes interacting with others. The core essence is to do what feels good, creating a sense of ease in your body-mind.
“With acknowledgement of the maturing body”, write Viv and Catherine, “we work to find potential and new relationships to the body in space.”
Art of Movement: This series of workshops begins on Thursday 11 October from 1.30 to 3.30pm at All Saints Hall, All Saints Street, Old Town, Hastings, followed by sessions on Thursday 18 October, Thursday 25 October and Thursday 1 November (locations to be agreed nearer the time, depending on weather, as Viv and Catherine would love to work outside when possible). £20 for all four sessions: payment at the first session. For any further information or to book your space, contact Catherine via 07817 144812 or catherine.pinhorn@gmail.com.
