Suspected arson at Labour’s Bohemia Road headquarters
Police are investigating a fire at Hastings Labour Party headquarters on Tuesday evening, an incident they say they are treating as suspicious. Nick Terdre reports.
A fire was detected on the first floor of Hastings Labour Party’s headquarters in Bohemia Road on Tuesday evening. The emergency services were called and the fire extinguished.
“About 10.20pm on Tuesday 10 March, police and firefighters responded to a fire on the first floor of a building in Bohemia Road, Hastings,” the police said in a statement.
“Firefighters made the building safe within minutes and no injuries were reported.”
The party said it was “very grateful to the emergency services for their prompt response.”
However, it seems this was not the result of an accident. The police said the incident was being treated as suspicious and called on anyone with information to report it online or by calling 101, quoting serial number 1385 of 10/03.
According to the party, there had been a meeting in the building earlier and there were a few people on the premises when the fire was detected.
The party said it would make no further comment while police investigations were under way.
