Planning forum on Bulverhythe housing scheme this Monday

A planning pre-application forum is to be held on Monday 13 January in connection with Hastings Borough Council’s plans for an extensive housing development on the Bulverhythe recreation ground. Bernard McGinley reports.

Anyone interested in the housing proposals for the Bulverhythe recreation ground (190 units off Bexhill Road) can find out where the project has advanced to at a planning pre-application forum to be held on Monday 13 January 2020, at 6:00pm in the council offices at Muriel Matters House, Hastings TN34 3UY.

The planning forum is intended to let the developers present their proposals to a wider audience, and for a structured discussion to take place. Plans will be reviewed in the light of the feedback received during the forum before a planning application is submitted., the council says.

The planning forum is managed by HBC’s planning team. The public are encouraged to attend and listen, however, only invited stakeholders (including community representatives), councillors and officers can speak. 

The scheme, previously reported in HOT in October 2018, involves a housing estate with some 190 dwellings, including the statutory quota of affordable houses, on the lower tier of Bulverhythe recreation ground. A key issue is the flooding to which the site is regularly subjected, to tackle which Homes England is to provide the council with a £6.9m grant for mitigation measures.
