‘Rebel For Life’ Art Exhibition and Outreach Event

Hastings & St Leonards local Extinction Rebellion (XR) group will be holding a pop-up art event at ‘A Wave of Dreams Arts Lab’ on 48 Kings Road, St Leonards TN37 6DY on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October.

The event will feature the famous pink willow boat, The Polly Higgins, that was made for the Pirate Day Rebellion alongside other climate inspired art. Artworks will be for sale to help raise funds for the local group and there will be an opportunity for visitors to write a ‘Message To The Earth’ on recycled cloth, which will be attached to the boat.

The event will include a talk from one of Extinction Rebellion’s founders, Clare Farrell. There will also be badge making and block printing workshops.

Ruth Gregory, a local artist and XR activist said: “This is a great opportunity to display creative reactions to the climate crisis. I am thrilled that so many talented artists have generously donated their work to help us promote the aims of Extension Rebellion. This is a chance for people to find out more about the movement and make their own creative expression about their concerns for the planet.”

“Helping to create The Polly Higgins was a very positive experience for me; meeting local people and making a beautiful piece of communal art together was extremely rewarding.

“We are facing a climate crisis with the potential to destroy the world. This idea is alarming but talking about it to like minded people encourages me to believe that together we can avoid this catastrophe.”

“I have taken part in several XR actions and intend to keep on rebelling until the Government tells the truth about climate change and acts positively to reduce the threats inherent within climate change. We must stop pollution and halt the mass extinction of our biosphere.”

Struck by the fact that the title of this regular page of the Hottie, “The Hot Planet”, is now ten years old, and it was hardly news then. How long it’s taken us to rebel.
