Celebrations at St John the Evangelist, Hollington
On Sunday 28 April the Bishop of Lewes, Rt Revd Richard Jackson, will celebrate Holy Communion at St John the Evangelist, Hollington, to bring to a close the church’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
There have been a large number of events across the year and these will be celebrated in a photographic exhibition in the church from 12 to 4pm on Saturday 27 April, together with the book launch of Wyon in Hastings by Dr Brian Hick.
The young architect Edward Alexander Wyon worked closely with the Rector of Church in the Wood, Rev Rose Fuller Whistler, between 1863 and 1867 to design and bring the new church to completion. The two men kept a regular correspondence and Whistler maintained detailed diaries which the author has drawn on extensively to tell the story of the church’s foundation.
The book also includes a large number of Wyon’s poems which were published posthumously after his early death in Hastings.
The book will be available on the day or subsequently through either the church website or from Lark Reviews at £6.50.
