Transition Town Hastings (TTH) is part of the national network of Transition Towns, a local non-political group of volunteers formed to respond to climate change and over-dependence on fossil fuels, campaigning for sustainable living and community participation, knowledge sharing and awareness raising. Here’s their latest news update about events happening locally.

Walk the Ore Valley Greenway
Join the Hastings Greenway group this Saturday (5 May) for a walk along the Ore Valley Greenway, starting from Sandown School at 2pm following the route to the Ore Valley Power Station site and then walking back, finishing around 5pm. Visit the Bohemia Walled Garden
If you’ve not visited the Bohemia Walled Garden (BWG) yet – another community garden – here’s your chance! BWG are holding an Open Day in association with the Chelsea Fringe Festival on 20 May from 11am to 3pm. There will be a plant sale, raffle, art activities, a talk about wildlife gardening and you can even plant your own sunflower to take home. Refreshments will also be provided. Bohemia Walled Garden Open Day
Sustainability Week 2018 ~ Save the date, But what’s the name?
Transition Town Hastings is running a Sustainability Week event from 22 – 30 September this year. Please save the dates as there are plans in the making for lots of exciting events, including food & energy workshops, recycling & food waste projects, and stalls and entertainment at a day long event on the Stade on 30 Sept 30. Put it in your diaries today!
If you can volunteer your time to help at events, especially on the final day please email us info@transitiontownhastings.org.uk with the Subject: Sustainability Week.
We’re also hoping some of you wordsmiths can help us with a good name for the occasion – Sustainability Week is just a working title and also our schedule runs for 9 days! Please send us your ideas to the above email address.
Sustainable Food Talk & Supper Evening
On Friday 8 June TTH & Energise Sussex Coast invite you to an evening with Patrick Holden CBE, Founding Director of the Sustainable Food Trust, British farmer & activist, campaigning for organic and sustainable farming in the UK. The evening will include an optional supper from our hosts at The Beacon.
We’ll also be hearing from our very own organic veg grower Abby Nicol from Pea Pod Veg.

Energise Sussex Coast events
Two upcoming EU funded events from ESC:
Is Solar PV for me? This workshop will give local residents the impartial in formation they need to make an informed decision about whether solar PV is the right choice for their household. In this workshop, we will explore the practical, financial and environmental considerations when making a decision about Solar PV. 26 May from 11 til 1pm at Silchester Mews, St Leonards. This free workshop is funded by the EU SHINE Programme.
And secondly, Building design and energy efficiency, a speaker event with local architect, Dominic Manning, Thursday 10 May at 7:30pm at the White Rock Hotel. Followed by the Transition Town energy group meeting. This is part of the EU SHINE programme. Contact Energise Sussex Coast for more details.
The Big Lunch – Sun June!
It’s almost that time of year again! The Big Lunch is a national event will take place in Hastings on Sunday 3 June in Warrior Square Gardens from 12 til 3pm. This national event was founded by the Eden Project to help create more resilient and better connected communities. Join us for food, chat, and if you’re game and the weather permits, a game of rounders! Bring food, drinks and your neighbours. ‘How to Plant a Forage Garden’
Permaculturist Anna Locke is holding this workshop on 14 May from 6.30 – 9.30pm. It will take place at Rock House and cost £25 (£20 concessions). If you are interested in this workshop, visit Anna’s website for more details or drop her an email.
Green Drinks
Green Drinks is our monthly informal gathering will be held once again at The Royal, opposite St Leonards Warrior Square Train Station.
