Virtuoso Spanish guitarist Iago Banet plays Kino-Teatr
Virtuoso Spanish guitarist Iago Banet is about to bring his rare talent to audiences in Hastings this month. Acclaimed as the Galician King of Acoustic Guitar, Iago receives rave reviews while on tour promoting his third album. He will be stopping off at Kino-Teatr on Sunday 25 May, as Nick Terdre reports.
Since 2018, Iago Banet has been building an impressive reputation as a solo fingerstyle acoustic guitarist, displaying his exceptional abilities and receiving rave reviews along the way as his technique and approach to performance have captivated crowds across Spain and the UK.
Among musicians he has performed with are Josh Smith (Joe Bonamassa), Mark Flanagan (Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra), Jack Broadbent and Clive Carroll.
Now based in the UK, Iago has showcased his immense talent at festivals including Brecon Jazz, Hellys International Guitar Festival and Aberjazz. Acclaimed as the Galician King of Acoustic Guitar, he is currently on tour promoting his third album, TRES, which was released in 2023, receiving an enthusiastic reception in sold-out shows across the UK.
Over the past year Iago has performed on regional BBC shows across the UK , alongside BBC Radio 3’s In Tune twice, and been played on The Blues Show with Cerys Matthews. Described as “a master of the guitar” by In Tune‘s Sean Rafferty, as “nothing short of phenomenal” in a recent review, and as a “highly recommended artist” by Celtic Connections, Iago creates stories without words, enthralling audiences as he does so.
His performances display ever new levels of skill, complexity and versatility, as he fuses styles ranging from gypsy jazz, blues, Americana, country and dixieland to swing, pop and folk.
