A vibrant celebration of community and dance
In October, Hastings Commons Community Land Trust (HCCLT) members Jan and Pam took the initiative to host an unforgettable 60s Danceaway event at the Observer Building’s main event space. With just a £1 membership to the CLT, they brought together friends and locals for a day of music, laughter, and a spectacular celebration for Older People’s Month. It was such a success that it’s going to be a regular event. Sharon Rhodes reports.
The atmosphere was electric as the dance floor filled with enthusiastic revellers, many donning fabulous outfits that harkened back to the swinging sixties. The older generation proved they could keep up with the best of them. Cocktails flowed, and the conga line soon had everyone moving and grooving, showcasing the energy and spirit of those who enjoyed the music of their youth. It was a delightful reminder that age is merely a number, and joy can be found at any stage of life.
Events like the 60s Danceaway play an essential role in combatting loneliness among older adults. Many in our community experience isolation, and activities like these foster connections, friendships, and a sense of belonging. It’s crucial that we continue to support and uplift our older generation, celebrating their contributions and ensuring they feel valued and included.
The Hastings Commons event team gave their support to make sure the event was a resounding success. Jan and Pam were over the moon with the incredible turnout and have decided to make the Danceaway a monthly event.
Let’s continue to celebrate our diverse community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, feels the joy of connection and community spirit. Here’s to many more events like the Danceaway, where joy knows no age limit!
