UPDATE: County Council wasted over £49k on ‘absurd’ security at County Hall

Two new Freedom of Information Act requests have revealed that East Sussex County Council (ESCC) spent £19.5k on four dates in 2022–23 ‘protecting’ County Hall from petition hand-ins, street theatre, giant newspaper headlines and mince pies. Gabriel Carlyle reports.

Santa Hats in Kings Road at 12.30 on 1 February

Friends of Pat Fisher, the visionary founder and director of Gizmo Kids are invited to wear a red hat and parade along Kings Road at 12.30 tomorrow, Thursday 1 February, to pay respects as her funeral cortege passes by. Her funeral will take place at Hastings Cemetery and Crematorium on the Ridge, at the top of Elphinstone Road.

Busy night for new HBC leader at Full Council

Vice-chairs for the new Cabinet committees were announced at last night’s Full Council meeting as the new arrangements at Hastings Borough Council continue to be unrolled. Meanwhile it became known that a solution has been found for the council’s contract to build a Premier Inn on the Cornwallis car park. Nick Terdre reports.
