Enchanting summer theatre celebrating a remarkable forgotten female artist

Following on from their acclaimed Windrush production, ExploreTheArch, Sussex’s experiential and most unconventional theatre company, are back with a hauntingly beautiful inter-European migration story. The House of Marcelle is inspired by the love letters of an extraordinary Belgian painter, Marcelle van Caillie. Marcelle settled in London in 1955, one of many restless Europeans shifting around the continent after the trauma of WW2. The show opens on Monday 29 July and runs into August. HOT’s Erica Smith enters the turbulent world of a remarkable woman.

Moon landing in St Leonards

Even St Leonards is marking the occasion. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths wandered, earthbound, down the King’s Road to see St Leonards’ own celebration of the first American space exploration in a surprising exhibition.

What's happening?

Bookchat: You tell the stories your way – life writing as only you know how (and events July 23 onwards)

Is it about writing a whole life story? No, not really. What then? It’s about hundreds and thousands of stories. All yours and only you can do it. That’s what it is. The stories of your life. Little ones, big ones, other people’s stories seen through your eyes. Your opinions on things. Think of Phoebe Waller-Bridge with Fleabag. Think of Karl Ove Knausgaard. The stories will be there for your children or other people’s children. For everyone. You can make us laugh and cry and wonder at the life you’ve led. Angela J. Phillip has a look at how to do it.
