Jobs fair organised by Green councillor this Saturday
After finding that many of the residents in his ward felt that the local Job Centre had little to offer them, Glenn Haffenden, Green Party councillor for Tressell ward, has organised a jobs fair for Saturday 4 February.
The event, set up in conjunction with Hastings’ Lets Do Business group and East Sussex College Hastings, will be held at the West Hill Community Centre on Croft Road (next to Torfield School) on Saturday 4 February from 10am to 3pm. It is open to all.
There will be businesses offering everything from apprenticeships to full-time jobs, as well as organisations that can help with CV writing, wellbeing support and interview techniques, Hastings Green Party reports.
East Sussex College Hastings will be there to talk about the many free courses they offer. The majority of positions available need no prior experience or qualifications, and all will be offering at least the national living wage.
“I spend a lot of time talking to residents in my ward of Tressell about their situations,” Cllr Haffenden said. “Many say that the support they get from the Job Centre is insufficient, which is why I decided to set up a jobs fair for people with little or no experience or qualifications.
“Everyone is welcome, wherever they live in the town. It will be a relaxed and fun event and hopefully will help people find a fulfilling job or take the first steps towards some qualifications.”
Jobs Fair Saturday 4 February, 10am-3pm, West Hill Community Centre, Croft Road (next to Torfield School), Hastings TN34 3JT.
