Finished Greenhouse July 2017

Volunteer with Alexandra Park Greenhouse Group

Green-fingered? Green-minded? If you’re looking for a volunteering position and like the idea of supporting the Alexandra Park Greenhouse Group (APGG), there might be something for you in the opportunities listed here.

The group’s aim is to restore Alexandra Park’s wonderful 1930s greenhouse to a community horticultural facility. You can visit the greenhouse from 10.30am to 1pm every Saturday morning to discuss opportunities and ways you can help. Most importantly APGG needs to fill the Volunteer Coordinator post and The Events Planners posts.

Gardeners with Creative Minds:
Gardeners and plant lovers required to care for and build-up our growing stock of donated plants, which are sold at fund-raising sales and from the greenhouse each Saturday. Working within the constraints of a plastic-roofed, unheated 100′ greenhouse, we need a team of enthusiastic volunteers who will enjoy working together with a flexible ‘can do’ attitude. Taking pride in the role and demonstrating the associated level of responsibility to the plants.

Volunteer Co-ordinator:
Volunteer required to work with the committee to develop growing community interest and build a vibrant volunteer group. Management of APGG email account, and the development of an email newsletter to keep everyone informed of progress
and activities. Updating our Facebook account. A few hours per month are required, working from home and at the greenhouse with other volunteers when necessary.

Events Planners:
Ideas and imagination for fund-raising events to showcase the greenhouse’s potential and to raise much-needed funds for maintenance and running costs. Networking with other groups and individuals to promote this unique building as a venue for horticultural, educational or social activities. The role is for organised persons with team spirit, time and energy, who like working with others to create fun and interesting events.Working from home on an annual Events Calendar, and with the team at actual events.

DIY Expertise:
Practical and resourceful persons required who can help with the on-going restoration of the greenhouse and smaller maintenance jobs, working as part of a volunteer team. Contacts with the building trade would be useful but not essential.
This volunteer role would suit people who enjoy problem-solving with ingenuity and skill; an element of ‘make do and mend’ is required. Flexible working times can be tailored to suit as and when jobs are identified.
