Big Step forward for the Pier Trust
Finally a decisive breakthrough for the PIER. Now that the Council has decided to start the Compulsory Purchase, the Pier Trust can seek government funding on the basis of its recent Feasibility study, which put a costing of £8 million on a first phase renovation. Trustee Chris Dodwell reckons “our recent and ongoing discussions with Government ministers and potential funders leave us very confident of raising the necessary funds” and he says it’s not just good news for the Pier as a historical icon, but an asset from which everyone will benefit and importantly create a large number of permanent jobs. It is the key to the future development of tourism along the whole seafront.
