Saving solar

Transition Town Hastings have circulated a request to sign a petition asking the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to urgently review the current approach to the solar feed-in tariff, which it plans to drastically cut.

The Transition Town team say: “This has effectively scuppered existing plans to install community funded solar on schools in Hastings. We remain optimistic that DECC will create a window for community owned solar to continue, if enough people respond to their consultation.”

Caroline Lucas has pledged to prompt the discussion in parliament if the petition reaches the required 100,000 signatures.

And here’s a link to Friends of the Earth’s Save Our Solar campaign where you can email your local MP, The Rt Hon Amber Rudd, who is also the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Eco Schools UK

The Transition team are also involved with the Eco Schools UK movement. Anyone interested in being involved, please contact the team. Never underestimate your power as an individual joining with other individuals to change things. A very small, very determined team eco-revolutionised one local school. Hugely encouraging.

TTH Energy Group meeting

The next Transition Town Energy Group meeting will take place at 17A Silchester Road ( TN38 0JB, Hastings Trust) at 7pm on Thursday 24 September.

Unfortunately this clashes with the Core group and Waste group meeting at White Rock, but keep in touch with TTH and you can get updates.

Big Energy Saving Week

The week beginning 26 October 2015 marks the fifth Big Energy Saving Week; a national campaign to help people cut their fuel bills and get all the financial support they are entitled to.

Big Energy Saving Week focuses on raising awareness of energy and efficiency issues among the general public through joint working between the voluntary sector and energy suppliers.

The week has taken place four times previously, with leadership from Citizens Advice and involvement from energy suppliers, government and other charitable partners.
