Free film screening: The Story of Plastic

Local citizen science organisation, Strandliners invites you to a free online screening of the film, The Story of Plastic. This award-winning documentary investigates global plastic pollution and recycling. Strandliners mission is: Cleaner Rivers, Cleaner Seas – Increasing public awareness of our environment through citizen science & community engagement. Beverley Coombes writes.

Different from any other documentary you’ve seen, The Story of Plastic presents a cohesive timeline of how we got to our current global plastic pollution crisis and how the oil and gas industry has successfully manipulated the narrative around it. From the extraction of fossil fuels and plastic disposal to the global resistance fighting back, The Story of Plastic is a life-changing film, depicting one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues.

Sorting and identifying rubbish

Watch the film at any time on Friday 28th July, Saturday 29th July, Sunday 30th July or up to 7.00 pm on Monday 31st July. Then join us for a discussion via Zoom at 7pm on Monday 31st July about the issues raised in the film. You’re welcome to take part in the discussion, or just tune in and listen. We will be discussing what we can do at a local level. Are beach cleaning and litter picking enough? Is recycling enough?

The screening is timed to coincide with Plastic Free July and highlights the importance of these campaigns.
