Cat graffiti

Cat on Lilo by Sweet Toof / Rowdy / Saint

Around and about (IV)

Walking around town, my eyes are continually drawn to the wide spectrum of artwork produced by either local or passing-through street artists. Report, photography and imagining by HOT’s Zelly Restorick.

Horse graffiti

On a train the other day, looking out of the window, I saw building after building – factories, industrial estates, shops, retail parks – displaying their naked, dull, unimaginative, blank walls and I had a wonderful, uplifting, colour-filled vision. I imagined a connection between these blank potential canvases and the artists (local or on their travels), art colleges and schools creating a world where these unimaginative walls were decorated with amazing, soul-inspiring artwork.

Imagine a world where we walked around and everywhere we went, there was art to enjoy or inspire or capture our attention or make us think or feel. Sculptures and paintings and a myriad of uniquely personal creative expressions of our lives.

Appreciation and gratitude – from me to all the street artists – who I feel brighten up both our streets and our lives.
