Defending crazy golf world champion wins back-to-back titles
The heat was on for this year’s World Crazy Golf Championships held at Hastings Adventure Golf this weekend. Erica Smith was delighted to hear that the defending world champion, Adam Kelly, retained his title.
Adam Kelly, 27, overcame Ed Pope and Frank Bisesi in the final group of the World Crazy Golf Championship in Hastings, winning the tournament by five strokes.
Overnight leader and reigning world champion Kelly had a solid fourth and fifth round, but American Frank Bisesi posted a fourth-round 29 to level the scores at -23.
The sixth round of the major was an edgy competition. Kelly didn’t put a foot wrong with a sublime 33 on the scorecard, heading into the final round with a three-shot lead.
Kelly said: “I’m over the moon to have defended the title against the biggest field to date. In the final round, Frank Bisesi and Ed Pope put the pressure on me, forcing me to produce one of my best ever rounds in the competition. I’m already looking forward to defending the title next year.”
The final ‘crazy crazy’ round was a straight shootout between Kelly and Bisesi, one and two on the leaderboard. Every question the American posed, Kelly had the answers, winning the tournament with a five-shot cushion.
Director of Hastings Adventure Golf, Simon Tompkins, said: “It’s been hot on and off the course. The two-day event played in scorching conditions not only tested the players putting skills, but hydration skills too. Adam Kelly kept his cool, winning by five shots to become our latest double champion. Another deserved winner was Murray Thompson, having won the novice event with a score of -5.”
Hasting Adventure Golf Course is open from 8.30am to 10pm daily throughout the summer – offering the perfect chance to skill up, ready to challenge Adam Kelly at next year’s contest.
