One Planet with Chris Richards

One Planet Hastings

The One Planet Hastings event is happening at the Common Room this Thursday 12 May from 7-9pm; a warm up event for the One Planet Cities UK Tour with Chris Richards. Come and hear Chris’s experience of setting up One Planet Bristol and understanding the pathways to a One Planet Hastings. Transition Town Hastings writes.

Storytelling is an old practice. It’s how we learned and passed on what was important.

One of the current stories of our times is climate change. It’s a story with characters, language, views, emotions, thoughts and much more.

Chris has apprenticed himself to this journey for many years…15 and counting. At some point it went from a curiosity to a thing.

One Planet with Chris Richards

Via positiva: Projects, organisations, action, action, action. People asked him to give talks about the projects. People listened and wanted more. Bristol became European Green Capital and things shifted. Suits, power, money on the surface. Lots of action and events. One planet living.

Via negativa: Loneliness, isolation, confusion and grief below. There are stories untold from this time in Bristol. Banksy’s Dismaland is one of them. Chris hosted Canadian Stephen Jenkinson during this time. His talk was Old Time: Honour for Elders and his new book was called Die Wise: A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul. There was a full house to be heartbroken. How curious it was that people willingly entered this darkness and how necessary.

Via creativa: Now we’ve said hello and created the banks of our river for something to flow. Places and water are deeply connected. Cities have rivers, Hastings has the sea. Expansion into wider possibilities is an option. Broader, richer frameworks of connection. Radical economist EF Schumacher developed one such framework.

Via transformativa: These broader fuller possibilities, bigger time space realities are required to nourish the soul and orientate us on our own journeys. Bringing awe, reverance, majesty and joy to our place on this planet. The planetary being the next stage for humans beyond the global, our current stage.

Bringing celebration of our own being and how we go about life and connect with the culture at large. A climate of cultural change.
