Hastings Fisheries Local Action Group to hold open day
Hastings Flag (Fisheries Local Action Group) are hosting a public meeting and open day on Tuesday 30 April to report on progress made by projects for the fishing community backed by EU funding. Hastings Borough Council’s communications department reports.
“Hastings Borough Council was awarded £800,000 from the European Maritime Fisheries Fund in 2016 to spend on community-led local development that benefits the fishing community,” Kim Forward, lead councillor for regeneration, said.
“At the meeting there will be the opportunity to hear from successful applicants, see what projects have been funded so far and get an insight into what is planned for the future. The programme is well under way and ends in March 2020.”
The event will start with the opening of Hastings ice maker and a tour of Hastings Fish Market with fisherman and chair of Hastings Fisherman’s Protection Society, Paul Joy. The new bespoke ice maker – jointly funded by Flag and the Foreshore Trust – produces salted, flaked ice, an integral component for the fishing fleet, supply chain and wider community.
This will be followed by presentations from the Flag team, Hastings Fish Brand and the Aspiring Chef’s Academy. Participants are encouraged to support the pop-up restaurant hosted by the academy by staying for lunch and trying some well-priced, local seafood prepared by the aspiring chefs.
This is a free event but numbers are limited, so please order a ticket to secure your place.
Registration will take place at Stade Hall before the visit to the fish market. Participants are also asked to note that there is limited capacity within the fish market and if you want to attend the tour, you’ll need to wear enclosed shoes.
Flag Public Meeting and Open Day Tuesday 30 April, 10.45am, Stade Hall, 20 Rock-A-Nore Road, Hastings TN34 3DW.
