Harlequinade
A history of Victorian Pantomime in paper-cut. Specially commissioned for Christmas, ‘Harlequinade’ exhibits the work of Ian Penney, one of the UK’s finest paper-cut artists, who has sold work all over the world. Ian has created 14 stunning paper-cuts celebrating Victorian Pantomime, which emerged from the Commedia dell’arte: “truly a great show for the Christmas season”.
Mounted in beautiful hand-finished box frames, each piece is behind glass, discreetly pinned, supported away from the backing board as if preserved as museum artefacts. The fragility of the cut paper can be clearly seen enhanced by the delicate shadows cast as the paper almost appears to float inside each frame.
Be delighted and inspired during a visit to the BlackShed Gallery this Christmas.
