It is cold today
By Alan Segal
It is cold today
My neighbours say
Frost flecks the still flowers
For straight-laced silver form,
Your breath makes weather
For the empty air,
Nothing else breathes!
It is cold they say,
It is cold today
The evergreens laugh in the woods
Alone at last…….
Yes it is cold they say,
It is so cold today!
Alan Segal is a former English teacher now living in retirement in St Leonards.
The above is a recent weather-related poem on the theme of the way we respond to the concept of cold and the natural world.
Alan has also sent us this self-portrait of the poet as a young man.
