HOT’s Paul Way-Rider takes a look at some of the White Rock Theatre’s programme for the next couple of months and beyond including shows from Ricky Gervais and UB40.
Gaelforce Dance – Wed 20 March
Gaelforce Dance, the celebration of Irish dance, music and song, has tapped its way into the hearts of audiences worldwide since its inception in 1999. This dance spectacular has enjoyed success on a global scale performing in over 30 countries, across 4 continents and playing to over 2 million people.
UB40 – 40th anniversary tour – Tue 2 April
Birmingham’s world-famous reggae stars, UB40, are embarking on a massive tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary!
Featuring UB40’s five founding members Robin Campbell, Brian Travers, Jimmy Brown, Earl Falconer and Norman Hassan, and long-time members Duncan Campbell, Martin Meredith, Lawrence Parry and Tony Mullings.
Fans can expect to hear UB40’s greatest hits, including ‘Food For Thought’, ‘One In Ten’, ‘Kingston Town’, ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling in Love With You’ and ‘Red, Red Wine’, amongst many, many others.
Sounds Familiar Music Quiz – Sat 6 April
With over 100 tracks across 8 rounds, Sounds Familiar is as far from a pub quiz as you can possibly get. Everyone in the team is included and you don’t need to know the answers to have a good time.
Crowds can expect to hear anything from Wham to Weller, Katy Perry to Tom Petty, Tina Turner to Tinie Tempah and Bruno to Bowie. At the end of the night, people are on their feet dancing and singing along to the tunes and it’s why Sounds Familiar is one of the UK’s top music quizzes.
Ricky Gervais – Tue 16 and Wed 17 April
The one and only Ricky Gervais is working towards his 2019/2020 World Tour ‘Supernature‘ and is coming to Hastings’ White Rock Theatre for two warm up shows. Considered one of the most influential British comedians, Ricky Gervais is returning to the stage once again. His hit series ‘The Office‘ is one of the most successful British comedies of all time, shown in more than 90 countries, with seven remakes.
Ricky is now a global comedy star, actor, writer and director. He has won seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, two Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. He has also hosted the legendary Golden Globes, televised to audiences of tens of millions, on several occasions with his typical no holds barred humour making him an unforgettable host in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016.
Ricky’s past world tours include ‘Science’, ‘Fame‘, ‘Politics‘, ‘Animals‘ and 2017’s ‘Humanity’.
Lost Voice Guy – Thu 18 April
Following the success of his winning appearance on the final of Britain’s Got Talent 2018, BBC New Comedy Award winner and star and writer of BBC Radio 4’s comedy series, ‘Ability’, Lee Ridley (aka Lost Voice Guy) is setting out on a tour of the UK. His debut headliner tour, ‘I’m Only in it for the Parking’ comes to Hastings this April. More info and tickets
Chaka Demus & Pliers – Sat 25 May
Jamaican reggae stars Chaka Demus and Pliers are to perform at White Rock Theatre in Hastings on Saturday May 25th playing in the UK for the first time in ten years.
Marking the 25th anniversary since Chaka Demus & Pliers came onto the UK chart scene when the duo scored six UK top 40 hits in just fourteen months, including ‘Tease Me’, ‘Murder She Wrote’, ‘She Don’t Let Nobody’ and their Number 1 hit cover of The Top Notes’ ‘Twist and Shout’.
