Talk by award winning Susan Evans
Creative Future is pleased to present a FREE talk by award-winning performance artist, writer and facilitator, Susan Evans, on her life and work, as part of Hastings Storytelling Festival.
4-time Saboteur Award nominated artist, Susan Evans, comes from a working-class background, born and raised on an East London Council Estate. Living on the margins, from a socio-economically disadvantaged position, led to a full-time, twenty year career in facilitating marginalised groups. Her work has won several awards for innovation.
A break through (aka a breakdown) in 2013, led to a return to the stage, for which she originally trained. Popular opinion from members of the literary elite, suggesting performance poetry is mostly ‘style over substance’ inspired Susan to join them, successfully submitting her work for publication. She is widely anthologised in print and online ~ becoming a ‘stage and page’ poet, widening her audience and gaining her new followers from all social backgrounds.
Susan is a regular headline artist across the UK’s performance poetry and alternative cabaret scenes, from the Royal Festival Hall to the festival tent. Spreading her wings, she recently made her New York debut, appearing at The Bowery Poetry Club in New York City.
Susan mostly writes about her relationships with people, places and politics; several of her poems have been longlisted and shortlisted, featuring in various, award-winning, independent publications.
Susan Evans now lives and writes in Brighton. Her highly anticipated, debut poetry collection: ‘Shift Happens’ is coming soon!
Susan’s talk will be punctuated by performance and followed by a Q & A session.
