A splendid night at Club Splendide

Bevali Francis reports that a splendid night was had by all at St Leonards’ mobile comedy club. The night was called ‘I can’t believe it’s not smuttier!’, a comedy cabaret held at the ambient vegan restaurant Moose’s Kitchen. The evening was the brainchild of Christopher Dodwell and an excellent evening it was too.

The compere for the evening was the talented Steve Accordion who, dressed in glitzy finery, entertained us with his original brand of accordion playing and singing. He was quick to engage the audience and had us all singing along within minutes. Our first act was Lou Lou Cousin, who treated us to her own brand of poetry, my favourite poem, entitled I met my love in Lidl, the sinister tale of unrequited love.  Not many poets get an encore but Lou Lou’s poems left us wanting more.

We were then treated to Steve Accordion and Alison Cooper’s very special version of the Renee and Renata classic Save your love. Christopher Dodwell then had us crying with laughter with his own brand of stand-up. Finally we were treated to wonderful comic songs beautifully sung by Rachel McCarron.

I have been to many comedy evenings in some of the best comedy venues in London and I can honestly say this evening was one of the best.  Often you are lucky to see two good acts in one night but every act was original and wonderfully entertaining at Club Splendide.  I can’t wait for the next one and have been told that there is going to be another in about two months’ time at another wonderful venue in St Leonards.  So keep your eyes open for the next hilarious splendid night out.
