Valentine’s concert with Hastings Sinfonia
Hastings Sinfonia and friends are delighted to present our annual Valentine’s Concert on Saturday 15 February at St John the Evangelist Church, St Leonards-on-Sea, writes Alexandra Hudson. We have a thrilling programme for you that spans the centuries, offering melodies you know and love and introducing beautiful new romantic works.
Experience the thrill of a live orchestra performing Mozart’s Magic Flute overture, Strauss’ rousing Emperor Waltz and the finale from Elgar’s Enigma Variations. We are particularly excited to perform Khachaturian’s renowned Sabre Dance which features a breathtaking xylophone part – a treat for the eyes as well as the ears.
The orchestra is immensely proud to premier a movement of our founder Polo Piatti’s newly composed violin concerto performed by soloist Laura Rickard.
Our incredibly versatile and talented piano soloist Howard Southern will perform the much-loved first movement of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no 2.
We are also thrilled to welcome back mezzo soprano Thomasin Trezise and tenor Paul Hopwood who will enchant you with romantic arias from Puccini, Bizet and Verdi.
Hastings Sinfonia, leader Liz Norton, is a vibrant orchestra formed of local professional and talented musicians. Founded in 2012 by Anglo-Argentine composer Polo Piatti, still the artistic director, the orchestra performs popular shorter classical works and new melodic works by living composers.
Conducting is Derek Carden, whose warmth and asides to the audience make for a wonderful shared experience at the concert.
After November’s hugely successful sell-out Music from the Movies concert at the De La Warr Pavilion the orchestra is excited to show its versatility and breadth with an evening of transporting, romantic works. We look forward to seeing you.
