Hastings Sinfonia’s Valentine concert
Hastings Sinfonia has prepared a Valentine treat featuring its young stars to be served up on Saturday 11 February at St John the Evangelist Church in St Leonards. Member Alexandra Hudson describes what lies in store.
Hastings Sinfonia gets 2023 off to a dynamic start with a performance of much-loved romantic classical music to inspire your Valentine’s weekend on Saturday 11 February at 7.30 pm in St John the Evangelist Church, Pevensey Road, St. Leonards. Enjoy a rich and varied programme of music – from the Baroque era to newly written works.
The orchestra’s star young violinists, local teenagers Alice Younger, Cai Jones and Yunus Eshekh-Alonso, will perform excerpts from the beautiful violin concertos of Bruch and Tchaikovsky, as well as Albinoni’s Adagio.
The youngsters play with the country’s top youth orchestras and are destined for great things. There will also be opera excerpts performed by soprano Thomasin Trezise and tenor Randy Nichol, and a movement from Chopin’s exquisite Piano Concerto No. 1 played by Howard Southern.
The orchestra will also perform Goodbye by our composer/founder Polo Piatti, with oboe soloist Gail Taylor, as well as Sibelius’ Finlandia and the Jupiter movement from Holst’s The Planets suite.
Together with the London Mozart Players and local choirs and soloists, Hastings Sinfonia played at the world premiere of Piatti’s multi-faith oratorio Libera Nos at the De La Warr Pavilion in November. The orchestra, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, is formed by local professional and talented amateur musicians, and is a cornerstone of cultural life in Hastings. Join us for a fantastic evening of music.
