Hastings Early Music Festival

The Hastings Early Music Festival (24 – 26 Nov), an exciting new programme of events, brings an enticing selection of concerts by internationally acclaimed musicians to Hastings newest concert hall, Opus Theatre – and to the Kino Teatr in St Leonards. The festival theme, Sound of Times, traces classical music back through time, from Beethoven to Bach and beyond into Medieval times.

On Friday 24 November at Opus Theatre, the festival launches with The Rise of The Piano Trio. The internationally renowned Rautio Piano Trio play Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn and feature Mozart’s letters, which give a fascinating insight into the composer’s world around the time he wrote ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ and his groundbreaking piano trios.

A concert by candlelight, The Age of the Baroque Virtuoso, is on Saturday 25 November at Opus Theatre and features Hastings Early Music Baroque ensemble supporting rising opera star, Charlotte Beament with arias from Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi ‘Nulla’. The programme also includes ‘Winter’ from The Four Seasons and the Bach flute suite.

The festival aims to venture beyond traditional classical music boundaries bridging the gap between audience and performers. With this aim in mind both these concerts have ‘open rehearsals’ between 4 – 5pm and at 6.15 – 6.45pm. ‘Artists in Conversation’ provides the opportunity to come and hear the players chat about the evening’s programme.
