Gwyneth Herbert in Hastings
Gwyneth Herbert exclusive
Gwyneth Herbert is to give an exclusive preview of her new live show in Hastings. Musician, composer and Hastings resident, Gwyneth Herbert will be bringing her highly anticipated forthcoming live project, Letters I Haven’t Written, to Kino-Teatr, St Leonards-on-Sea on 29 September, in one of four special UK performances previewing the show.
The Kino will join Colchester’s Roman River Festival and London’s famous Crazy Coqs in hosting a foretaste of what will be Gwyneth’s first major new touring project since 2013’s The Sea Cabinet.
Since then, Gwyneth has toured across four continents and additionally received great acclaim for her work as a composer. She has co-written five musicals, and last Christmas was composer, musical director and voice of the title role in the Bristol Old Vic’s hugely successful six-week production of The Snow Queen.
Here’s video of Gwyneth at the Kino-Teatr from May 2016:
Letters I Haven’t Written will feature all new material, with an album release (her 7th) and official launch expected mid-2018. Gwyneth describes the new project as “a musical, narrative and visual journey exploring the lost art of letter writing. Through blots of heartbreak, strokes of curiosity and scribbles of whimsy, the show unearths the emotional complexities of putting pen to paper, and, in a climate of status updates and limited characters, seeks to find a more meaningful dialogue with the world”.
The show will also feature visuals from projection designer and video artist, Will Duke (Royal Shakespeare Company, Theatre de Complicite), some of which will feature in the preview performances.
You can hear stripped down versions of two of the new songs in Gwyneth’s session on the BBC Radio 2 Jamie Callum Show, broadcast last week, on the BBC iPlayer.
And catch her on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line-up live from Edinburgh on 19 August.
