Dom Pipkin heralds new music nights in St Leonards
Friday night is music night in October at the Kino-Teatr in Norman Road. Proprietor Russell Baker has curated a schedule of exciting acts, ranging from New Orleans piano, cinematic song smithery, bossanova mouth trumpet, operatic violin pop to Franco-American chanson.
The first act to perform is Dom Pipkin – Europe’s leading purveyor of New Orleans piano stylings – in a solo performance this Friday. His piano might be from London, but his soul is from New Orleans! Dom Pipkin takes inspiration from Professor Longhair, Huey ‘Piano’ Smith, Lee Dorsey and James Booker. His fans include Paul Weller and Eric Bibb. For a taste of his music, visit his website.
The following Fridays will see Julie McKee (left), Kirsten Morrison, Earl Okin and Marianne Dissard. Full details and bookings are available on the Kino-Teatr website and facebook page.
Support acts will be ‘new voices’ – local, young, singer-songwriters and instrumentalists. Anyone wishing to apply, please contact events@kino-teatr.co.uk .
Friday music nights start at 7pm. Why not pop down, enjoy a meal and a drink or two, support fresh local talent and watch musicians with international reputations.
