The Fabulous Red Diesel return to Ronnie Scott’s
After their highly acclaimed debut playing Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s just a few months ago, The Fabulous Red Diesel are returning just before Christmas and there are still tickets remaining if you’d like to travel with them on their hired coach up to central London. HOT’s Zelly Restorick heard from lead singer-songwriter, Kat Lee Ryan (aka ‘Miss Kitty’) about the band’s latest adventures.
“It’s been a rollercoaster of a year since we played Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s – and it’s not over yet! After selling out Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, we went on to play at Sidmouth Jazz Festival, Rye Jazz Festival, Black Mountain Jazz, and our very own Small World Festival.
“Since being back in Hastings, we have been recording our new album, funded by Help Musician’s Mobo Fund. It has 14 tracks, all recorded locally in YiaYia’s studio in St Leonards. It’s an amazing place, big enough so we can all play at the same time, but with complete separation for maximum mix-abiity. The album is due for release in mid-april 2023, on the band’s own label, Priestess Records.
“We’re planning to press a limited run of vinyl for the launch and are in talks with a prestigious London venue – somewhere we haven’t played before – regarding the date and time. We are currently booking the accompanying tour – and getting the diary filled very quickly!
“The picture above was taken at Black Mountain Jazz club and in the audience was a journalist called Nigel Jarret who writes for the Jazz Journal. To cut a long story short, we did an interview with him, which you can read here: Jazz Journal.
“And yes, we’re going back to Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s. Our pre-Christmas party night is on Sunday 4 December – and once again we are running a coach (called Jill) to take us there. If you would like to be on that coach – and there are only 6 places left – please email me at thefabulousreddiesel@yahoo.com For people who’d like to make their own way, the ticket line is Ronnie’s Tickets.”

I’m sure these guys are very talented and capable of making the spirit soar, but am I the only one with a slight niggle about their name?
First, diesel is the fuel that previous regimes have used to accelerate the murder of children, after the leaded petrol ploy was revealed. Second, ‘Red Diesel’ is a fuel intended for farmers, who we all know are committed to destroying the planet and murdering children via their nefarious ‘agriculture’, which seems to me to be nothing more than playing with their motorised Tonka Toys.
I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I may have to raise this at the next arts supervisory meeting.
