Dead Belgian comes to the Roomz – June 22nd
For closet Jacques Brel fans this is a must see night. Hailing all the way from, Liverpool (my home town) Dead Belgian plays a range of Brel songs, bringing their own deliciously ramshackle approach to his unique catalogue, writes HOT’s John Knowles.
As Folk Radio UK put it, Dead Belgian has ‘created a sound that is all their own, while remaining true to the spirit of Jacques Brel’s music and poetry.’ The band, formed in 2007, has quickly gained a reputation from critics and fans alike who have taken to their ‘rousing and rowdy back-porch reinvention of Jacques Brel’s honest and poetic stories’.
So, whether you love Brel or you just love good honest raunchy music, this is a great opportunity to discover, re-live and enjoy. This is a FREE gig, but the audience is asked to contribute, buy a CD or put some money in the hat; love is a wonderful thing but it doesn’t pay the petrol as I am sure Jacque Brel would have sung… maybe.
Uncut Magazine – “It’s what the World has been waiting for.”
Mojo Magazine – “Dead Belgian’s deliciously ramshackle approach de-constructs Brel the myth and icon to reclaim him as a street musician, chanson maestro and people’s champion.”
Dead Belgian are brought to you by Fetch Productions, a new production company looking to bring the best in live entertainment, music and comedy.
Dead Belgian appear at The Roomz, 33 -35 Western Road, St Leonards on Sea, TN37 6DJ on 22 June, doors 7pm.
