Opera South East's next production - Verdi's Macbeth

Opera South East’s next production – Verdi’s Macbeth

Christmas and New Year cheer with Opera South East

On Sunday 6 December Opera South East presents an evening of Christmas delights in the old town with audience participation and a welcome performance by the Claremont Preparatory School Chamber Choir. The pupils of Claremont School were invited to join in a carol composing competition and some of their carols will be performed by the chorus of Opera South East.

Kenneth Roberts, the Musical Director of Opera South East, commented on his findings as the sole judge of the entries submitted:

I have been very impressed with the quality of the entries which have shown a high degree of polish and sophistication. I found it extremely difficult to reach a decision.

The winning entry, to be revealed during the concert, will receive a prize and runners-up will be highly commended. The results will be published in next week’s edition of the Observer.

Mari Wyn Williams - a welcome return in 2016

Mari Wyn Williams – a welcome return in 2016

Opera South East received an Accolade for Musical Excellence for their production of Carmen in 2014, from NODA, National Operatic and Dramatic Association. They are also looking forward to starting rehearsals in the new year for their production of Verdi’s Macbeth, which will be staged on Friday/Saturday 22–23 April 2016. Making a welcome return to the stage at the White Rock Theatre will be Mari Wyn Williams, taking on the role of Lady Macbeth. Mari gave a wonderfully dramatic performance as Leonora in OSE’s producton of Il Trovatore earlier this year. Playing opposite her will be Hastings favourite, Peter Grevatt, as Macbeth. The Company is seeking to enlarge the chorus for this production and any singers interested in joining can apply via an online contact form. You will be assured of a prompt response. Music rehearsals will start in the middle of January.

Opera South East Carol Concert at St Clements Church, Swan Terrace/High Street TN34 3ES, starts at 6.30pm to approx 7.45pm.
Tickets: £8 / free for each accompanied under-16 year old – available in advance from Imagen Gallery, 20 Claremont, Hastings or at the door on the night.
