Brighter Day: Fundraising event for Citizens Advice 1066

A Brighter Day: a fundraising event organised by Keith Rodway for Citizens Advice 1066 will be held at The Printworks in Claremont in Hastings’ Trinity Triangle on Sunday 30 September between 4.00 and 10.30pm. A Brighter Day features 15 acts from the vibrant Hastings and St Leonards music scene; each will perform a short set of original material in support of CA 1066, an independent charity with no government funding, relying entirely on donations. Many of these artists also contributed to a benefit CD, which is currently available via selected outlets around the town and at the event.

Among those taking part will be Sage Maverick, featuring legendary British folk singer Claire Hammill; jazz singer Hayley Savage; Anita Jardine; Hastings indie luminaries, Otti and the Voices; Kat Lee Ryan of The Fabulous Red Diesel – recently featured on BBC Radio 6; singer-songwriter Tim Hoyte; Nick Monagahan and Phil Little; Chasing Shadows; Column 258; Vic Trick; Keith Foster; Lucy Pappas with Clive Timperley and Jiggery Pokery with Stevie Stone, who wrote and sings the song, A Brighter Day.

The music will range from indie pop, classic rock and jazz to – because this is Hastings – a rousing sea shanty, The Wreck of the Amsterdam, featuring 1066 Pipe and Drums.

A Brighter Day: a fundraising event for Citizens Advice 1066 will be held at The Printworks in Claremont in Hastings’ Trinity Triangle on Sunday 30 September between 4 and 10.30pm.

Citizens Advice 1066

Citizens Advice 1066 is a local charity providing real help at the heart of the community. The service is available to everyone in the community of Hastings and Rother. Most clients are likely to be experiencing financial hardship and many are experiencing physical or mental health problems. Each year CA1066 helps around 7,000 people who have, between them, 22,000 issues.

The service is run by 15 paid staff and around 50 volunteers, who are assessors, advisers, receptionists, administrators and research and campaigns workers.

Training and support is given for all roles and varies between eightweeks for an assessor and around one year for an adviser. Volunteering helps individuals gain new skills and experience and build confidence, and this often leads to paid work in similar fields. If these volunteers were paid at the going rate, it would cost over £300,000 a year.
