Behind The Curtain
A rare chance to experience and observe an opera masterclass in action. Barefoot Opera continues to explore new ways for audiences to engage with the art of singing, with a fascinating glimpse into the detailed coaching and training that young opera singers undergo.
This event, Behind The Curtain, with guest coach, Elizabeth Rowe (Head of Music at Holland Park Opera and Senior Coach at the Guild Hall School of Music and Drama) and Jenny Miller (Director of Barefoot Opera) and four talented young professional artists, promises to be both entertaining and insightful.
“As a singer tries to find their own voice, to find the colour and meaning in an aria, a fascinating physical and psychological process takes place,” say Jenny Miller. “Being in the same room with that process is a thrill, and something that is genuinely insightful in a way that simply listening to recorded music or watching something on a screen can’t replicate.”
This special event will appeal to everyone from those actively engaged with voice training themselves – teachers and singers – to people who want to enrich their experience of live music.
“Witnessing a masterclass in action”, continues Jenny, “literally watching a singer transform before you… you will find that your own ears are changed and your experience of music deepened and expanded.” (Jenny Miller)
Starting at 3PM, each singer will have a half hour to explore with Jenny and Liz the intricacies of technique and interpretation, and how to bring their favourite audition aria to glowing life. We break after hearing two singers for tea and delicious home made cakes, before hearing two more singers.
This is a very special opportunity to discover new ways of enjoying and hearing classical singers, as well a chance to listen to some ravishing arias.
Behind the Curtain: Sunday 2 July at 3pm at The Music Room, 6 The Uplands, St. Leonards-on-sea, East Sussex.
Tickets: £12 in advance from http://www.barefootopera.com/tickets/behind-the-curtain, £15 on the door. Refreshments included in ticket price.
