Multi-instrumentalist to guest at Jazz Hastings

Andy Panayi has been a feature of the UK jazz scene for nearly 40 years. A jack-of-all-trades, he composes, arranges and plays all the flutes and all the saxophones as well as the clarinet. He leads a selection of both jazz and classical groups.
His quartet, which will be appearing next Tuesday night, 8 August, at the monthly Jazz Hastings session at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association on the Stade, specialise in playing well-known standards alongside original compositions.
In his career Andy has performed and recorded with singers like Shirley Bassey, Jessye Norman, Paul McCartney, Elaine Page, Elvis Costello, Georgie Fame, Peter Skellen, Elaine Delmar, Helen Shapiro, Madeleine Bell and Patty Austin.
He has also worked alongside and supported Abdullah Ibrahim, Freddie Hubbard, Scott Hamilton, Kenny Baker, John Dankworth and Cleo Laine and Humphrey Lyttelton. He was recently a guest player with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra at the Barbican.
In the course of his career, Andy has received the Marty Peach Arranging Award, the John Dankworth Soloist Award and the British Jazz Award for Jazz Flute.
With Andy will be the highly experienced Terry Seabrook on piano and Nigel Thomas on bass. A special guest will be the Belfast-born and now New York-based Darren Beckett on drums. Darren has toured all over the world and plays regularly with Brandon Flowers and Madeleine Peyroux.
