An evening in with…Rixiang Huang online

This Friday evening, 29 May, Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition prizewinner Rixiang Huang will join us for a live performance of beautiful music, writes Chris Cormack.

The eleventh in this series of short online concerts presented by Hastings International Piano is given by 2018 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition finalist Rixiang Huang.

Programme:

F Mendelssohn Fantasy in F sharp minor Op 28, also titled Sonata écossaise (Scottish sonata)
Alfred Grünfeld Soirée de Vienne, a famous concert paraphrase on Johann Strauss II’s Fledermaus.

Rixiang Huang from China was a prizewinner of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition in 2018. Highlights of his 2019-20 season include: a five-city solo recital tour in China, a solo recital at the Salzburg Mozarteum University in Austria, chamber music performances at the Sarasota Music Festival in Florida and a solo recital at Piano Summer at New Paltz.

He was first prize winner of the 2019 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, where he was praised by audiences and critics alike for his superb artistry and passionate, charismatic performance style. He released his first CD album, French Romance, in April 2020.

Watch Huang’s 2018 prize-winning performance of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No 1 before the performance if you have time while you wait!

In these times when the livelihood of our musicians is at risk,  this series supports the careers of HIPCC prizewinners and, of course, they receive a performance fee.

The concerts are free to view, but viewers are able to make a voluntary donation to Hastings International Piano Engagement Fund, or choose to join as a Friend.

Watch live here (the video will appear just before 8pm on Friday 29 May) or by visiting the Facebook page.
