Zoom and HFS collaboration

This September, Zoom Arts is launching a brand new group exhibition celebrating the Hastings based charity HFS (Hastings and Rother Furniture Services) to produce an intriguing and informative exhibition to be shown at the Zoom Gallery, Warrior Square Station in St Leonards on Sea. Zoom Arts’ Susan Cleland writes.

The exhibition contains images which embrace and inform the viewer of the opportunities that HFS have to offer. From selling on antique, unique and unusual furniture and fascinating trinkets, to offering creativity classes, and further more, up-cycling otherwise redundant items of furniture, the very ethos of HFS is that very little needs to be thrown away, and there is always an opportunity for re-establishing an item’s purpose.

Furthermore, HFS offer generous discounts to people on low incomes, and so remain accessible to all.

Zoom Arts have collaborated with HFS to produce this project during the course of the summer to deliver a selection of images offering a narrative of the charity, and a sneak-peek behind the scenes at the people who tirelessly offer their time and energy for HFS.

There will be a wide range of images which as Rob Maxted, Chair of Zoom explains “..show exactly what HFS is all about, with it’s interaction with the local community at all levels. We wanted to celebrate all that is great about this charity based in Hastings and Bexhill, and really showcase what is on offer to everyone”.

There will be a Private View of the work on Tuesday 12 September from 7pm – 9pm and then the exhibition will be open from Wednesday 13 September 10.30am – 4pm, together with a fantastic opportunity to witness one of the real assets to HFS – the Workshop On Wheels – which as the name suggests is a mobile workshop that is taken out into the community to teach people creative skills and help assist in any up-cycle projects they might be interested in tackling!

The exact dates that the WOW van will be on site are still to be confirmed but it will be a genuine opportunity for local people to come along and see what hands-on creativity HFS has to offer.
