Pre-Edinburgh Festivals shows at OB Theatre
In July, OB Theatre will be holding three weekends of theatre, comedy and cabaret from some of the UK’s top acts. John Knowles reports.
Now working as an independent theatre space, the OB Theatre will be bringing some of the UK’s top award-winning acts to Hastings in July with a season of Pre-Edinburgh shows.

Sin Bozkurt© for Duo Bogof
Winners of ‘Best Alternative Act’ at the London Cabaret Awards 2014 and first up are Duo Bogof, recent arrivals to Hastings, with their new cine-magic show It’s a kind of Magic, which pulls you through the cracks of their glittering showbiz facade into a parallel universe, where illusion and reality are not only uncannily similar, they are often completely interchangeable.
Radio Four’s Josie Long returns to Hastings for nick-nack shopping, sea-swimming and to perform her new show, Works in Progress. Josie is three times nominee for best show at the Edinburgh Festival and has sold out at every event in Hastings. She will be appearing alongside Grace Petrie, a folk singer who regularly appears on The Now Show on BBC Radio 4. Grace has toured extensively in the UK and in Canada, most recently appearing at the Vancouver folk festival.
And rounding things off are Company Gavin Robertson with Six Sided Man inspired by cult novel, The Dice Man. Darkly comic, tongue-in-cheek and highly imaginative, the play has been created by Gavin Roberts, who is “…well-known by now for creating imaginative physical theatre with added emotional value” (BBC Radio).
The play has toured widely to sell-out audiences all over the world and returns to Edinburgh this year: “…the capacity audience were held spellbound throughout the entire performance – witty and unique” (Hong Kong Standard).
