St Mary in the Castle's newly restored Lantern Light Roof

St Mary in the Castle announces Spring Season

One year on from reopening under the auspices of Buckswood School, St Mary in the Castle is going from strength to strength, writes Hannah Deeble.

March saw St Mary in the Castle reveal photographs of it’s newly restored Lantern Light Roof, the centre piece of the brand new ‘Lantern Restaurant’ due to open on Pelham Arcade for 2014’s summer season. The fully refurbished restaurant will be a welcome addition to the beautiful 600 capacity neo-classical Adelaide Auditorium and Crypt Gallery. Venue Manager Zoe Ashdown writes ‘Soon you’ll be able to come to us for a delicious pre-show meal, afternoon tea or a creamy cup of coffee!’ The restaurant will also serve as a box office to the venue.

As well as it’s wedding licence being approved, St Mary’s is pleased to offer a richly diverse Spring programme.  With music from The XFactor’s Kingsland Road, Legendary Folk Rockers Fairport Convention, Punk Princess Toyah Willcox, Olivier Award Winner Barbara Dickson, the finest purveyors of rhythm and blues The Blues Band and recitals from Hastings Philharmonic Choir, St Mary’s really is thriving. This season also takes in the Comedy of ‘Grumpy Old Man’ Arthur Smith at April’s Labour Comedy Night, and the ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Cat from touring theatre company The Rude Mechanicals for all the family to enjoy.

St Mary’s monthly HAVE A GOdance series continues throughout the spring; learn a new dance skill with professional teachers and then dance the night away with St Mary’s Baptistry Bar open until late.  What better way to put those skills to the test than by attending one of the Jack in the Green Festival Ceilidhs in May?

As well as hosting touring artists, St Mary in the Castle is taking bookings for concerts and conferences, weddings, parties, rehearsals and classes.  With a new website imminent and a mailing list recently launched, things really are bright for the future of this venue.

For more information on shows, tickets and bookings visit St Mary in the Castle’s WEBSITE or sign up to the mailing list HERE.
